Pennsylvania’s New Strangulation Statute: Presented by Assistant District Attorney Amanda Jacobson and Altoona Police Department Lieutenant Ben Jones. The two will co-present on new law and how it is prosecuted and reported.
Medical Effects of Near-Fatal Strangulation: Presented by Dr. Bouchard , chair of the Department of Emergency Medicine at UPMC Altoona. Dr. Bouchard will speak to the immediate and long term implications of near-fatal strangulation. Victims who survive a strangulation are not always out of danger medically.
Strangulation in Domestic Violence: Presented by Cindy Estep, Victim Services Prevention Educator at Family Services Inc. Learn the truth about strangulation as a strong predictor of future violence and fatality in domestic violence.
Surviving Strangulation: One Women’s Story: Hear survivor Mandy Aungst tell the story of her night of terror, where she was strangled, beaten, and left for dead and the journey she is on now back to health and happiness.
